Richard Dowd, MD, MS received his undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from Salve Regina University in 2010 in Newport, RI. He then went on to earn his MD and MS ina clinical investigation from NYU School of Medicine in 2015. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA in 2022 and joined the department of neurosurgery at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University as the neurosurgical oncology fellow in July, 2022.
Dr. Dowd’s clinical interests included both benign and malignant brain tumors, as well as metastatic brain cancer. He also practices general neurosurgery of the brain and spine.
Dr. Dowd’s research interests are focused on the translation of bench research to bedside applications and therapeutics. This includes the running of clinical trials to determine the effectiveness of novel medications and treatments, working towards a new prognosis for those with malignant brain cancer. He also has interest in studying metastatic brain cancer and the mechanisms underlying spread from the rest of the body to the central nervous system.
