Health Check: Researchers work on innovative device to help with spinal cord injuries

“Rhode Island researchers are taking the lead in developing an innovative device that may, down the road, help patients with spinal cord injuries.

It’s still in the development stages, but if it pans out, it could be revolutionary.

This $6.3 million research is a collaboration, in part, between Brown University and Lifespan and is funded by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Dr. Jared Fridley, a neurosurgeon at Rhode Island Hospital is a principal investigator and says the device they’re developing and testing is an ‘intelligent spinal interface.’…”
