Beyond the Diagnosis: Putting a face to children with rare diseases

(WJAR)

A new local organization, Beyond the Diagnosis, creates portraits of youth with rare diseases to inspire novel research and treatments. Portraits from Beyond the Diagnosis will be featured in Rhode Island Hospital through February, including a portrait of Logan Brown, who was diagnosed with a rare disease and treated by the Department of Neurosurgery’s very own Dr. Petra Klinge.

“‘When I first became involved and I should say challenged to take care of patients and people with complex conditions and complex medical scenarios, I immediately learned that I have to go outside the box,’ said Klinge.

‘We learn from our patients and we see them as our partners,’ added Doctor Konstantina Svokos, also a neurosurgeon at Hasbro.”

The bridge between Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Dudley Street now features the gallery of Beyond the Diagnosis Portraits.
