Nikos Tapinos, MD, PhD Wins Bruce M. Selya Research Excellence Award
This year’s winner of the Bruce M. Selya Research Excellence Award, presented for outstanding biomedical research at Lifespan partner hospitals, is Nikos Tapinos, MD, PhD.
Dr. Tapinos is director of molecular neuro-oncology research at Rhode Island Hospital’s Laboratory of Cancer Epigenetics and Plasticity.
He is at the forefront of research in the field of glial cell biology. Among Dr. Tapinos’ achievements are patents on techniques to attract migrating tumor cells to regions in the brain where they can be targeted for oncological interventions, and development of novel antibodies for cancer therapy.
Dr. Tapinos was nominated for the prestigious award by Ziya Gokaslan, MD, neurosurgeon-in-chief, Rhode Island and The Miriam hospitals.
