The use of cutting-edge diagnostic and surgical approaches and equipment ensures safer and more effective surgical procedures, leading to superior clinical outcome. Better diagnosis leads to better treatment. Prior to surgery, precise and high-resolution MRI imaging allows accurate measurement of CSF circulation and better visualization of CSF spaces, revealing abnormal fluid flow or blockade. Monitoring neuronal activity in the brain using intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring further ensures safety and normal function of fragile brain structures. Other techniques used during surgery include stereotactic image guidance and high magnification surgical microscopes.

The B&S-CSF center is managed by a multidisciplinary team of experts from RIH and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Neurosurgeons, pediatric neurologists, pediatric urologists, ear nose and throat specialists, orthopedic surgeons, plastic surgeons and pediatricians will work together to ensure patients will receive the best care.

Besides being highly skillful, our internationally renowned neurosurgeons are pioneer academic scientists, having on-going research collaborations with the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Brown Institute for Brain Science, and Norman Prince Neuroscience Institute. Their exciting scientific discoveries and deep understanding of CSF disorders endows them with the ability and superior skill set to deliver the best of cures for the young, adult and senior populations.
