Background
Deja Rush was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended The Ohio State University for college where she studied Biomedical Engineering and Spanish and graduated cum laude with honors research distinction. She went on to obtain her medical degree from Howard University where she finished 1st in her class and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Deja developed a passion for neurosurgery under the guidance of her mentor, Dr. Damirez Fossett, and served as President of her school’s student chapter of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Deja is interested in a career in pediatric neurosurgery and is extremely passionate about research that underscores disparities in healthcare, as well as mentorship, particularly for those underrepresented in neurosurgery. Outside the hospital, she enjoys swimming and biking, making squares on Two Dots, offering detailed yet unsolicited reviews of movies she has seen in the theater, and bankrupting people in Monopoly.
